My last two years in NYC I got a little obsessed with using "archival" painting materials. Linen instead of canvas, the most archival acrylic ground instead of basic gesso, etc. But now I'm back to basics: cotton canvas with gesso. And that's something like Golden gesso, which is actually acrylic primer not historical gesso. I do 5 coats lightly sanding between each coat. And that's wet sanding not dry. Oona did this long ago and I should have listened to her.
