Squeezed in three more watercolors between some work meetings and a run around Shanahan Ridge. Unlike yesterday the light was brilliant and clear and the air was warm and windless. The gate to the top of Flagstaff was open so I drove up a few hundred yards to a picnic area and made two quick paintings of some rocks/trees and shadows. Not great, but again, not upsetting. The third painting had the most potential but I blew it somehow, and need to return to the spot. Three large pines casting parallel shadows up an exposed slab of granite - delightfully graphic image that I rendered dull and confusing. The location was unusual for me as I like spots with some seclusion. Here I sat on a boulder on the shoulder maybe eight feet from the road. Cyclists and music-filled SUVs crawled past without pause.
