April 2016 Summary
Another short month. The work is starting to look increasingly impatient. Don't know what that means but here's the report:
Works in progress, in situ at Moraine Park
Needs more but will I come back to it? Painted at White Ranch.
Reworked oil painting. Just getting used to the new paints.
Drawings (watercolor on paper/in books)
Cottonwood tree with snow and partially open window (painted from car); melty world
Bad photo but I love how this study turned out.
Longs Peak: The Story of Colorado's Favorite Fourteener by Dougald MacDonald, 2004
Lawren Harris: An Introduction to His Life and Art by Joan Murray, 2003
I saw a series of posts on Instagram from the Lawren Harris show in Massachusetts (and L.A.) and checked out a few books about him. The Group of Seven made some great landscapes!
Hiker's Guide to the Rocky Mountain Art of Lawren Harris by Lisa Christensen, 2000
I'll admit I've only skimmed the books above but this second one is based a cool idea, providing information on hiking to places on which images were based.
Ellsworth Kelly by Tricia Paik, 2016
Incredible monograph. I'm getting mildly obsessed thinking about positive/negative space and he was a master.
I tubed a bunch of paint. It was fun, and will help me paint better outside.
